How Hushpuppi’s partner, Woodberry’s chat with a disguised FBI agent led to their arrest (photo)

Hushpuppi’s right-hand man, Olalekan Jacob Ponle, popularly known as Woodberry may have indirectly been the weakling among the 12 disciples as an affidavit released by the FBI agent detailing how they stole millions of dollars from companies and people in the United State of America.

The affidavit shows there was a chat between the agent and Woodberry which he had no idea he was dealing with the law itself while trying to steal a huge sum of money through wired transfers from a company in the US.

He is currently being prosecuted in U.S. District Court in Chicago and slapped with a charge of conspiracy to commit wire fraud.

Born Olekan Jacob Ponle, Woodberry was charged with conspiracy to commit wire fraud after allegedly orchestrated an international cyber fraud scheme where he targeted several companies based in the US.

Woodberry has been scheduled to reappear in court presided by Judge Jeffrey T Gilbert on July 9, 2020, at 4 pm for a detention hearing.

The complaint indicated several occasions where unknown persons gained unauthorized access to a US based company’s e-mail account and mailed naïve employees with claims to be from the company.

According to the complaint, the emails looked similar to legitimate emails that had been sent over the email account of the company.

The fraudulent emails asked the victims to send funds to a bank account that was owned by Woodberry.

He argued that Woodberry asked the mules to make a conversion of the proceeds of the fraud to Bitcoin and wire them to a virtual wallet that Woodberry owned and managed.

Reports reveal that Woodberry and Hushpuppi could face a jail term of 20 years if found guilty of wire fraud.
