Home Affairs will pay R1500 to stubborn green ID book owners to get a smart ID card

South African home affairs plan of making the migration to smart ID card pay for itself is failing completely and it is also costing the economy hundreds of millions every year.

Green ID book owners seem to have no interest in the new smart ID and making people who do not want something to pay for it is the worst idea. If you make it free and they steal show no interest you will have to pay them to do it.

“WE’LL HAVE TO PAY AND EVEN IF WE HAD TO PAY R1500 IT WILL BE WORTH IT BECAUSE THEN FRAUD AND IDENTITY THEFT WILL BE FOUGHT EASILY, WE WILL BE ABLE TO IDENTIFY ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS BETTER TOO”

The green ID is not only old and big it is a threat to our weak economy because a lot of identity theft and fraud are made possible because of it. If everyone in South Africa was using a smart ID right now there wouldn’t be so much fraud, identity theft, and tax avoidance.

If home affairs do not make any progress in getting green ID book users to change to smart card ID in a year or two they will have to make the process free and if that doesn’t work they will eventually have to pay them to change to smart ID.

Home Affairs insiders say the pressure is getting high and all the roads are leading to the department having to pay the stubborn green ID users. “We’ll have to pay and even if we had to pay R1500 it will be worth it because then fraud and identity theft will be fought easily, we will be able to identify illegal immigrants better too”
