A 55-year-old herbalist, Kabiru Amuda, has been arrested and is facing charges in Oyo state for allegedly defrauding a client of N2.5 million.

According to reports, the suspect sought the money in exchange for giving a charm to a man named Taofeek Ogungbe, who wanted his business to grow.

Amuda was charged with theft and collecting money under false pretenses by police on Tuesday before an Iyaganku Magistrate’s Court in Ibadan. The defendant entered a not-guilty plea.

The defendant committed the offenses at Ilora, Oyo State, sometime in June, according to the prosecutor, Inspector Iyabo Oladoyin, who testified in court.

Oladoyin claimed that the defendant gave Taofeek the money on the pretense of wanting to get him ready for a traditional charm to boost his business and personal wealth.

She informed the court that the defendant’s failure to perform the agreed-upon services was a violation of Sections 419 and 390(9) of the 2000 Oyo State Criminal Laws.

The defendant was granted bail by Magistrate Adebola Adeola in the amount of N3 million (three million naira), accompanied by two sureties in an equivalent amount. The lawsuit was postponed until August 20 by the judge.
