Governor Kabiru Abba Yusuf of Kano State has issued a decisive directive to the Accountant-General to close all bank accounts held by the state’s ministries, departments, and agencies (MDAs) with immediate effect.

The announcement was made during an ongoing meeting at the Government House, which included the Chairman of the Kano State Internal Revenue Service and heads of MDAs.

Governor Yusuf explained that this move is part of a broader effort to ensure that all government revenues are properly accounted for and effectively utilized to support the state’s development goals. The governor emphasized the importance of adhering to the Kano State MDA Revenue Harmonization Law of 2016 to centralize and harmonize the state’s financial management.

“I am directing the Accountant-General of the state to urgently issue a circular to all MDAs to comply with the provisions of the Kano State MDA Revenue Harmonization Law of 2016,” Governor Yusuf stated. He further instructed that all money deposit banks and financial institutions immediately close all existing MDA bank accounts, both for internally generated revenue (IGR) and expenditure, and transfer the balances to a newly established IGR account under the oversight of the Accountant-General.

Banks have also been directed to submit certificates of compliance to the offices of the Accountant-General and the Chairman of the Kano Internal Revenue Service for further action.

Governor Yusuf assured the citizens of Kano State, particularly taxpayers, that the funds would be effectively used to improve key sectors such as water and sanitation, health, education, and agricultural development. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to the continued development and betterment of the state.
