Gay rights activist Bisi Alimi reacts after Pope Francis allows priests to bless same sex marriage

Popular gay rights advocate Bisi Alimi has recently shared his thoughts on a report about Pope Francis allowing priests to bless same-sex marriages.

In a candid Instagram story, Alimi expressed his admiration for the priests who embraced this progressive move. He went on to highlight the significance of Pope Francis, a prominent figure in the Christian world, supporting same-sex unions. This development stands in stark contrast to the prevailing conservative views on homosexuality in Nigeria, where discussions often involve references to Hellfire and End Time.

Bisi Alimi questioned the opposing beliefs in Nigeria, wondering how individuals reconcile their views against same-sex relationships with the Pope’s acceptance of such unions. He emphasized the apparent contradiction between the Pope’s stance and the widespread Nigerian sentiment that considers homosexuality as morally wrong and leading to eternal damnation.

It’s worth noting that Bisi Alimi has been actively vocal on LGBTQ+ issues. In August 2023, he criticized Bob Rischke over his comments on a mass gay wedding in Delta state. A video initially thought to depict a conventional wedding was later revealed to be a mass gay wedding. Rischke expressed the view that those arrested deserved punishment, drawing a strong rebuke from Alimi, who called him a fool for such an opinion.

In a separate revelation in November 2022, Bisi Alimi shared the results of a DNA test he undertook. Celebrating his 60th anniversary, the 47-year-old disclosed that he is 75% Nigerian and 25% Benin and Togo. The DNA results also unveiled a painful aspect, tracing his ancestors to a sugar plantation in Haiti.

In summary, Bisi Alimi’s response to Pope Francis’s support for same-sex marriage, his criticism of Bob Rischke’s comments on a mass gay wedding, and the revelation of his DNA test results collectively present a nuanced narrative reflecting societal attitudes towards LGBTQ+ issues, religious influence, and personal identity.
