It is no longer news that popular Nigerian filmmaker Funke Akindele Bello and her husband JJC, were arrested and charged court for disobeying the law made by the state government as regards gatherings and social distancing. The couple had a party at their Amen estate home and had a number of people in attendance including a fellow colleague, Eniola Badmus, and Nigerian singer, Naira Marley. More important is the fact that Funke is an ambassador for the Nigeria Center for Disease Control and it was very careless of her to go against the message she had been spreading on tv for days prior to the lockdown.
However, Funke was made an example of particularly because of the response her husband gave a morning after the party. Her husband took to his Instagram page in the early hours of the morning before Funke did to justify the act and stated that everyone in Amen estate had been there for more than 14 days and that they are all safe. He also claimed that Nairamarley had been there for almost two weeks which is completely false. He went on to say a lot of people are running their mouths. He spoke so nonchalantly and with a high level of ignorance. He basically added more fire to the already burning surface and this at large prompted the Lagos state government to take action.
Apart from the fact, the Funke made a big mistake by first posting the photos on social media, JJC didn’t have to say anything at all, neither did Funke. In trying to explain the situation, they ended up compounding the case. This basically proves to show that no one is above the law, and once an offense has been committed, do not act lackadaisically like you are untouchable.
