Federal Road Safety Corps in Bauchi has blamed speed violations after 14 people were killed in a crash that occurred on Thursday at Zangoro Village, along Bauchi-Darazo Road in the Darazo Local Government Area of the State.
Five others sustained various degrees of injuries in the crash that involved two vehicles.
The state Sector Commander of, Federal Road Safety Corps, Yusuf Abdullahi, confirmed the incident to our correspondent.
Abdullahi said the crash occurred around 12.17pm.
He said, “The crash occurred at Zangoro Village along Bauchi-Darazo Federal Highway and it involved one commercial vehicle and a private one.
“They are a yellow Golf 3 Wagon with number plate AJ-507 GWA and an ash Chevrolet with number plate 15B-07BA belonging to the Bauchi State Government.
“A total of 19 people comprising 10 female adults, seven male adults, one female child, and one male child were involved.
“Immediately our men arrived at the scene, they rushed the victims to the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University Teaching Hospital, Bauchi, for confirmation and medical treatment. Unfortunately, 14 of them were certified dead by a medical doctor upon arrival there.
“The deceased included two male adults, 10 female adults, one male child, and one female child. Those who were injured are five male adults.”
While identifying speed limit violation as a possible cause of the accident, Abdullahi said N73,000; seven mobile phones, one power bank, and four small handbags were recovered at the scene of the crash.
He said the corpses had been deposited at the morgue of the ATBUTH, Bauchi, after which they would be released to the relatives for burial.
He added that the five others who sustained various injuries are receiving treatment in the hospital.
