A woman, among others, were allegedly said to have lost her life as a result of the flood, which wreaked havoc in Malala, Dukku, and other communities in the Nafada Local Government Area of Gombe State.
It was gathered that the disaster was caused by the overflow of the River Gongola.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya, who was briefed about the situation on Saturday, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased.
He also sympathized with those who lost their homes and other property.
Yahaya said, “The state emergency management agency and other relevant bodies are to immediately move in and provide succour to the victims to cushion the effects of this disaster.
“The Gombe State Emergency Management Agency is to immediately undertake an on-the-spot assessment of the level of the havoc wreaked in the affected areas of Malala, Kunde, Gombe Abba, Dukkuyel, Wuro-Tale, Hashidu, Lafiya, Jamari and Zaune in the Dukku Local Government Area as well as in Nafada and its environs.
“It is advisable for our people to heed flash flood warnings and avoid flood-prone areas as a preventive measure.”
The governor promised his administration’s commitment to ensuring the well-being of the citizens, adding that the government would offer assistance in order to cushion the effect on those affected by the disaster.
Yahaya appealed to the National Emergency Management Agency to complement the efforts of the state in providing assistance to the victims.
