The minister of works and housing, Babatunde Fashola, has said that the federal government has no plan of awarding new road projects.
Fashola said that this is as the federal government is focused on investing its resources only on critical existing projects on road reconstructions and see to it that they are completed, The Nation reports.
The minister listed major constructions to be prioritised by the government as Loko-Ogbeto bridge, Lagos- Ibadan expressway, Kaduna-Abuja-Zaria highway, the Suleja-Minna highway and the roads that lead to sea ports.
He said that the allocation for the ministry (N261 billion) is such that not all proposals can be implemented.
Fashola said: “Now in terms of the budget size, how much is proposed N261 billion? It will not be enough to discharge all our obligations.”
“So one of the things we have recommended is to first slow down, if possible stop new projects and commit our limited resources to completing projects that are nearing in completion.”
