Just as a few of us we’re getting ready to go and see the Champagne Papi, we’ve been caught in our feelings: The alleged news that Drake was set to perform three gigs in South Africa next month has been quashed, after links to tour dates in Cape Town, Johannesburg and Durban proved to be a set-up.
Is Drake coming to South Africa? No…
On Tuesday evening, social media was abuzz with the claims. Some people were preparing to remortgage their homes to get a ticket, which were “put on sale” for as much as R18 000. Now, we cannot stress this enough: DO NOT buy any tickets for a Drake performance in South Africa – they ain’t happening.
The domain which was advertising the tickets was only set-up online in December 2019. The links don’t go anywhere, and the office of “Book Tickets” is registered to a virtual location in Canada – they would really have no right to be selling concert tickets to us in Mzansi, even if they were legitimate.
Save that “One Dance” for someone else
We must also make it clear that the concerts advertised for Ghana and Nigeria on the “Book Tickets” site are completely fake. That’s right, these guys tried to play three countries at once.
For those still needing further confirmation – because, let’s face it, the truth hurts – BET Africa have dismissed the event. They have been listed as a sponsor for the live shows, but they flatly deny having any knowledge of Drake’s plans to tour the continent. Sorry everyone, but you should steer well clear of this scam.
At least we got some pretty funny Tweets out of this whole mess…
