Four years after quitting HKN to start his Davido Music Worldwide record, Davido has signed on his cousin, B-Red, to his thriving record label.
Davido announced the B-Red’s inclusion into his self-owned record label a few hours after the release of his new song, ‘Dollar’ on Friday, February 21.
“New DMW Signee @bredhkn drops the first single under DMW ‘Dollar’ft Davido and @peruzzi_vibes !!! Out now!!! Stream and watch everywhere!!!! 🔥🔥🔥🔥💣,” Davido had written as a caption for an Instagram post, which has now been edited.
Unknown to many, B-Red was one of the reasons Davido dumped HKN to start his personal imprint after incessant quarels and issues over the artistes he’s promoting – Mayorkun and Dremo.
In 2016, Davido launched DMW to cater to his business away from HKN Music after several issues with his cousins – B-Red and Sina Rambo.
The tension between Davido and B-Red reached a height on April 17, 2016, when Davido allegedly accused B-Red of ‘hating’ on him over the success of his newly signed artiste Mayorkun, whose debut single ‘Eleko’, had over a million views on video-sharing site, Youtube on the first few months of release.
“My own blood hating on me .. Over MAYORKUN’s success wow !!! I’ve done so much for u .. U still no blow !! FUCK OUTTA HERE!! Hater oshi. You don do over 10 videos and nothing happened, so don’t bring ur anger to me please,” he wrote in a now-deleted Instagram/Twitter posts.
In 2012, the cousins, Davido, B-Red, and Sina Rambo, were involved in a fight while in Atlanta over issues that weren’t revealed to the public. However, the families waded into the rift and settled the issues quickly.
In a chat with Pulse in 2016, HKN’s Digital Publicist and Head of Social Media, Sam Frank confirmed a little issue between Davido and B-Red and says it has been sorted.
He said, “On the B Red/Davido issue, it was a little misunderstanding. Davido wrote stuff about it on social media out of anger but it has since been resolved. They are family. They will always stick together”
However, in a 2018 interview with Raro Lae, Sina Rambo says Davido no longer holds any shares in HKN Music.
“HKN is owned by Chairman HKN right now, I mean HKN is family, Davido was part of the family but he always wanted to start his own personal label and develop talents from the root.
“Davido is like any big artiste who is going to have many ventures but as far as HKN is concerned, he just doesn’t have any shares anymore, but it’s family,” Rambo told the interviewer.
Davido, Sina Rambo and B-Red are sons of three brothers, who made up the Adeleke clan of Osun State.
Davido is the son to the eldest Adeleke, Dr Adedeji Adeleke, while B-Red is the son to late Isiaka Adetunji Adeleke and Sina Rambo is the son to the dancing Senator, Ademola Adeleke.
