A Nigerian couple in the UK is joyfully celebrating the birth of their first child with the AA genotype, despite both parents being AS.
The news was shared via the X handle by @Gustine__, who revealed how the couple with AS genotypes escaped the 50% chance of birthing an AS, and a 25% chance of SS for each pregnancy.
He wrote, “Congratulations to my people. AS X AS got married, first child in the UK turned out to be AA. A perfect way to end the year!!!”
The couple’s story has inspired mixed reactions online, with many celebrating it as a sign of hope and faith, while others highlighted the importance of genetic counseling.
