Burna Boy, the Nigerian singer who clinched a Grammy award, has rebuked veteran rapper Idris Abdulkareem for dismissing his 2020 statement regarding no artist clearing the path for his career as ‘stupid talk.’
In a yet-to-be-released excerpt from the widely followed podcast “The Honest Bunch,” the renowned Jaga Jaga artist confronted the misunderstanding Burna Boy has with his peers.
Back in 2020, the ‘Last Last’ vocalist stirred up online discussions when he asserted that none of his senior counterparts paved the way for his success.
Burna contends that in the Nigerian music scene, he received no assistance because everyone was preoccupied either with their own endeavors or with resenting others’ achievements.
The upcoming podcast scheduled for release on Monday, February 19th, witnessed Eedris venting his frustration towards his younger counterpart over his statement.
His words: “You hear someone like Burna Boy say no one helped him in Nigeria. That’s stupid talk.”
Following Abdulkareem’s comments, Burna Boy turned to the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) to retaliate.
In a post that has since been removed, he not only warned of repercussions should he encounter the veteran rapper but also exacerbated the situation by referencing Abdulkareem’s recent struggle with kidney issues.
His statement on social media read, “Abdul Kareem abi wetin dem dey call your papa, I no blame you. I blame people wey donate money for your hospital bills. And I wish say you be person ey fit dey enter the kind places wey I dey dey. make we use mistake kam.”
