One of the housemates at the 2019 Big Brother Naija show, Mike Edward, has lamented his absence from the 2019 IAAF World Athletics Championships, which holds at the renovated multi-purpose Khalifa International Stadium in Doha, from September 27 to October 6.
Mike was poised to represent Nigeria at the competition, but his participation in the reality show stopped him.
Recall that He also missed the just-concluded 2019 African Games, where Nigeria placed second behind Egypt.
Reacting to his absence at the Doha Championships, Mike sent his wishes to Nigerian athletes who will partake in the competition.
“I am sorry that I cannot be with you guys. Hope you guys prepare well, win the medals and represent the country in the best way you can. Till we see each other again, best luck to you and keep doing it do it there,” Mike said on the BBNaija show on Sunday.
Meanwhile, Mike is married to a British Olympian, Perri Shakes-Drayton.
He won the men’s high jump event at the SPAR British Athletics Indoor Championships in 2018.
He was supposed to be Team Nigeria’s sole representative in the men’s high jump at the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Australia but became a victim of the IAAF’s indefinite freeze on the transfer of allegiance process.
Among the Nigerian athletes expected in Doha are Blessing Okagbare, Divine Oduduru, Tobi Amusa, Ese Brume, Raymond Ekevwo, and Itsekiri Usheoritse.
