Controversial Nigerian singer, Portable, has made headlines again by publicly addressing popular crossdresser and social media influencer, Bobrisky, urging her to seek forgiveness and not resort to drastic actions like suicide.
Portable’s comments come amidst the ongoing legal and personal challenges Bobrisky, whose real name is Idris Okuneye, has been facing in recent months.
Bobrisky was released from prison on August 5, after serving part of a six-month sentence issued earlier in April. She had been convicted for her involvement in the abuse of Nigeria’s currency, the naira.
However, her problems deepened after social media influencer Martin Otse, also known as ‘VeryDarkMan’, leaked an audio recording allegedly of Bobrisky claiming that she had bribed officials of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) with ₦15 million to drop the charges against her.
Bobrisky has vehemently denied these allegations, calling the audio fake and stating, “I served my term in prison.” Despite her denial, the EFCC has taken the bribery claims seriously and summoned both Bobrisky and Otse for questioning. Additionally, EFCC Chairman Ola Olukoyede has launched an investigation into the matter, further intensifying the situation.
To complicate matters, Nigerian rapper Falz has added fuel to the fire by supporting parts of Otse’s claims. In a letter to the activist, Falz disclosed that Bobrisky had reached out to him seeking ₦3 million to allegedly pay off officials in exchange for preferential treatment while in prison. Falz claims he turned down the request.
As Bobrisky battles both the legal ramifications and public scrutiny, she recently opened up about her emotional state, revealing that she has been struggling with suicidal thoughts. Though she has dismissed any intention to seek public sympathy, Bobrisky has expressed the need for understanding and support during this challenging time.
In response to these revelations, Portable took to Instagram to offer advice, urging Bobrisky not to consider suicide but instead to repent and turn to God for forgiveness. The singer, known for his outspoken nature, stressed the importance of seeking redemption and leaving behind what he referred to as “sinful ways.”
In his message, Portable stated, “Bobrisky, life is risky. God does not want sinners to die. Tell him to repent. Damn it to any sinner that does not repent. If you die, you are going to hell. Beg God to forgive you. God does not want a sinner to die.”
He further emphasized that repentance could lead to a more fulfilling life, urging Bobrisky to ask for forgiveness and change her ways. “Help me tell Bobrisky to ask God for forgiveness. All Bobrisky needs is to ask God for forgiveness of sin. What Bobrisky is facing now, if he repents, he will enjoy the world. But if he does not repent.”
