Atiku Condemns sudden Hike in suicide rate

Reacting via his official twitter handle to the death of  a 300-Level Medical Student who Committed Suicide ‘For Failing MBBS Examination’

The former vice president of Nigeria and the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic party in the 2019 general election said “The rate of suicide among our youth is worrisome. I believe that as parents and community, we need to pay close attention for early signs of depression among our young people, particularly in this depressing times”

Timi Ebiweni, a 300 level medical student of the Niger Delta University (NDU) allegedly committed suicide in Bayelsa state.

According to reports, Ebiweni took a plunge into a river close to the university campus, Amassoma located in the Southern Ijaw area council of the state after failing his examination.

The police public relations officer in the state, SP. Asinim Butswat, when contacted by SaharaReporters confirmed the incident but said there was no official report yet.

Meanwhile, about 50 students, out of the 169 who sat for the  Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) exam, failed the examination.
