“As single mothers we still want to be happy” – Actress Joselyn Dumas speaks on men running away from single mothers

Ghanaian actress and media personality, Joselyn Dumas has explained why many single mothers are still single despite actively searching for a partner.

She revealed that men do not want to want to date a woman with a child because they are afraid of raising another man’s son or daughter.

The mother-of-one shared this in a recent episode of her YouTube series while recounting a personal encounter with a male friend who vowed never to be with a single mum.

Dumas pointed out that his mindset contributes to the challenges many single mothers face in finding romantic partners, as they often encounter biases due to their parental status.

The TV host also raised a question about the contrasting attitudes towards adoption, implying that nurturing a non-biological child should not be perceived differently.

The actress underscored that single mothers often raise their children solo out of obligation and need, not out of a desire for a solitary life.

Joselyn Dumas said; “We have our kids as single mothers but we still want to be happy. We still want to date other people.

“Let me tell you why we don’t go out and marry. I spoke to a friend of mine here, Anthony. He said, ‘Me, I will never be with a born one’.

“His reason was, ‘Why would I come and raise somebody else’s child? That’s not my bloodline. He doesn’t have any trace of my DNA in him. Why am I going to now help someone’s bloodline grow? What about mine?’

“And I said to myself that ‘this is the reason why a lot of single mothers are single with their children’. I asked him, ‘What about adoption?’ And he said that’s different. But if you ask me, it’s not that different”.
