Argentine Navy to receive 209 submarines from Brazil

The Brazilian Navy has granted the request to transfer two submarines – Type 209/1400 – to the Argentine navy, after a conference which occurred between the Brazilian president Jair Bolsonaro and  Argentine President, Mauricio Macro.

The ships are said to receive minor repairs at Tandanor shipyard in Argentina before its full utilization in 2020.

The agreement between both countries includes a future transfer of two boats, with the first two set to be transferred during the year 2019.

The Tupi class of four vessels has been arranged to be replaced by the four Tonelero-class submarines in the future.
