Cristiano Ronaldo and Al Nassr saw their Saudi King’s Cup hopes dashed as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Al Taawoun in Riyadh.
In the round-of-16 clash, Al Nassr was handed a lifeline with a penalty in second-half stoppage time.
However, Ronaldo, who had been perfect from the spot since joining the Saudi Pro League, missed, sending his effort over the bar.
The visitors took the lead in the 71st minute through Waleed Al-Ahmed and despite Al Nassr’s strong showing, they couldn’t find the net.
Head coach Stefano Pioli, who recently succeeded Luis Castro, experienced his first defeat with the club as well.
Meanwhile, Al Nassr currently trail Al Hilal by six points in the Saudi Pro League and are strong contenders in the Asian Champions League.
This means Ronaldo still has chances to bring major silverware to the club after nearly two years in Saudi Arabia.
