Alex Iwobi has issued warning to Super Eagles’ opponents following Thursday night’s win over Cote d’Ivoire at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, (AFCON).
The Super Eagles midfielder said the three time AFCON champions are not afraid of any team currently participating at the ongoing tournament.
Nigeria defeated host nation Ivory Coast 1-0 to brighten their chances of qualifying for knockout stage. Eagles and the Elephants failed to score in the first half in the game played on January 18 at the Olympic Stadium in Ebimpé.
But captain, William Troost-Ekong converted a penalty in the 55th minute of the game to give the Eagles the much deserved win.
Speaking to journalists about their performance, Iwobi said: “The formation was different. We defended as a team, from Victor to the goalkeeper, everyone defended well so I feel like that formation change helped us.
“We have to concentrate on the next game, we take it game by game but we have the belief that we can do so, we have to wait and see. We are afraid of no one but we treat every team with respect.”
The win moved Peseiro’s side to second position in Group A with four points from two games. Cote d’Ivoire are in third position with three points from the same number of games.
Meanwhile, Equatorial Guinea are on top of the group with goals difference ahead of Nigeria, while Guinea-Bissau are in fourth position with no point. Nigeria will now face Guinea-Bissau in their final Group A tie on Monday.
