AFCON: Mikel Obi discusses Super Eagles chances

John Mikel Obi, a former Super Eagles captain, has weighed in on the team’s chances ahead of the forthcoming Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON.

Mikel was part of the Super Eagles side that conquered the rest of the continent in the 2013 edition hosted by South Africa.

Jose Peseiro’s side will be targeting a fourth AFCON title in Cote d’Ivoire.

Mikel has now drawn comparison between the team that won the competition in 2013 and the present squad.

“There is a lot of difference, isn’t it? Football has changed from ten years ago and dogmatically, it has really changed. I think this group of players now are a very young team,” Mikel told CAF’s Media.

“They play a totally different brand of football, so let’s hope we can really see good performance by us, the Nigerian team.”

The Super Eagles will face hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau in Group C.
