Nigerian on-air personality, Osi Suave, along with other Nigerians, took to social media to claim that the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) allegedly left Libyan players stranded in Nigeria after matchday 3 of the AFCON 2025 qualifier, where the Super Eagles won 1-0.
Libya is currently trending online as of today, October 14th, 2024. Reports reveal that the Super Eagles are facing a frustrating 12-hour ordeal at Al Abraq International Airport in Libya, where the team has been stranded since their arrival on Sunday afternoon.
In response to this situation, Super Eagles players have shared their frustration on social media, expressing their dissatisfaction with the ordeal in Libya. The second leg of the AFCON 2025 qualifier between Libya and Nigeria is scheduled for Tuesday, October 15, 2024, with an 8 PM local time kickoff.
Super Eagles striker Boniface via his official page on the popular microblogging platform X formerly called Twitter wrote; “Been at the airport for almost 13hours no food, no wifi, no where to sleep, African we can do better.”

In another post, Pooja criticized African football, calling it “dirty.” He pointed out that Libya had earlier complained about the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) landing them in Port Harcourt for their match in Uyo, where they lost to the Super Eagles. Pooja anticipated Libya would retaliate, but stated that the way they are now treating the Super Eagles is excessive
Pooja wrote; “Africa football is too dirty & lacks sportsmanship cos the winning at all cost is still a big deal in this continent. When Libya complained about the NFF & them landing in PH for the game in Uyo, I knew they would retaliate & look at what is happening to Super Eagles in Libya.”
Reacting, a popular Nigerian OAP, Osi claps back at Pooja as he discloses that it was the Super Eagles of Nigeria that started the dirty game, noting why NFF landed Libya players in PH for a game in Uyo.

Another X user identified as Ibitoye Shittu on X recalls how NFF treated Libya players so badly by leaving them stranded when they come to Nigeria for the first leg against Super Eagles by 1 goal to nil. He noted that Super Eagles players are receiving Karma.

mrhorlic: Nigerians can’t take half of what they dish to others.
effedeborah: Let’s leave sentiment.. if that is what truly happened then Nigeria did not try at all.
mr_larryking: What goes around comes around like hula hoop 😂.

Many people talk just to fill the silence. Nigerians often criticize their own. Consider what the NFF would gain by bringing them to Port Harcourt. Is Libya a country that Nigeria should fear? There could have been communication issues or someone might have dropped the ball. Were they held hostage for five hours in Nigeria? Didn’t they stay in a hotel and train before the match? I’m surprised by how readily Nigerians criticize their own country. If you have a six-hour layover, even with internet access and the ability to move around, you would feel exhausted—imagine doing that for 14 hours without any amenities.
0yetolaaj: Osi pls be quiet, was it the NFF that booked their flights to land in PH?? They landed in PH and because they didnt want to incure extra flight charges to Uyo, NFF that had been waiting to receive them well in Uyo had to make impromptu plans by sending buses to pick them up with police escort.
tripleoshotit: I don’t like when you are an OAP which you are supposed to be more knowledgeable and you ain’t, makes me question how they got their job, the NFF had prepared their landing in UYO@where they are supposed to play, they landed themselves in PH. NFF still made preparations for them. So don’t come ONOME and just talk coz u want to trend, it’s dirty for your brand.
iam_u_c: I like people who tell you the truth when you desperately need it. Truth is that we started this mess and if things don’t get put together it will continue like a circle. Treat other how you would want to be treated simple .. NFF should be paying the price.
