The Anambra State Government through the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare, has ordered a probe into the alleged murd£r of a woman by her pastor husband.
The pastor identified as Elijah Emeka Ibeabuchi, has been accused of st@bbing his wife, Ogechukwu Okafor, to d£ath.
Chidimma Ikeanyionwu, the media aide to the Commissioner of Women Affairs, Hon. Ify Obinabo, confirmed the incident in a statement on Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
The incident which happened on the 13th of August, 2024, was reported to the ministry by the deceased’s family over the weekend, following alleged irregularities and threats by the husband, who hails from Nimo community in Njikoka Local Government Area of the state.
Speaking, uncle to the deceased, Mr Samuel Onuorah from Abatete, stated that he got a call from his late niece’s husband that Ogechukwu fell from a four storey building and d!ed.
Seeking justice at the office of the commissioner for Women Affairs, Mr Onuorah alleged that the family discovered that Ogechukwu did not fall but was rather st@bbed in her neck and chest by Elijah.
He revealed that their doubts were cleared after they went to the mortuary where the husband had deposited Ogechukwu’s corpse and saw that she had a wound which looked like she was stabbed.
The family of the deceased also alleged that Mr Ibeabuchi intended to use their newborn baby for rìtual purposes but in the process of allegedly dragging the baby with the wife and stabbing her, he also scraped her palm.
They urged the state government to come to their rescue and give justice to their deceased daughter.
Responding, the Women Affairs commissioner, Hon. Ify Obinabo called on stakeholders, women groups, human rights activists, and social media users to support the government in ensuring that Ogechukwu gets justice.
She urged everyone to lend their voices on their matter and assured of notifying the wife of the governor in order to ensure that justice is served.
