The Lagos State Taskforce has apprehended six individuals involved in the illegal sale and display of petroleum products, exploiting the ongoing fuel scarcity.
The suspects were caught selling petrol at exorbitant rates to motorists along Fadeyi, Maryland, Charity Bus Stop, and Airport Road. CSP Adetayo Akerele, Chairman of the Agency, led the operation, stating that the current fuel shortage is not an excuse for profiteers to exploit the public by selling petrol at inflated prices.
Akerele emphasized the safety risks posed by the illegal sale of petrol, noting that such actions endanger public safety due to the highly flammable nature of the products. He warned that anyone caught engaging in illegal fuel sales or collaborating with petrol stations for these activities would be arrested.
“We are committed to curbing these illegal activities and ensuring the safety and well-being of the public. The actions of these black market operators not only exploit motorists but also pose a severe threat to public safety,” Akerele said.
The Taskforce has urged the public to report any suspicious activities related to the illegal sale and storage of petroleum products.
The six suspects—Toibu Ishola (44), Yakubu Olayiwola (34), Adebayo Rasak (29), Maria Balogun (50), Motunrayo Dosunmu (43), and John Ogunfowokan—are expected to be charged in court soon. The agency reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of Lagosians.
