Fubara: Sack Wike over Rivers crisis – Lawyer Idam tells Tinubu

President Bola Tinubu has been urged to immediately sack the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike.

The call was made by a rights activist lawyer, Madubuachi Idam on Monday.

According to him, sacking Wike will enable him focus on his struggle to reclaim political control of Rivers State from Governor Sim Fubara.

Idam said Tinubu should order Wike to choose between his ministerial position and having control over the political structure in Rivers State.

Wike has been at loggerheads with Fubara over his attempt to exert political dominance in the state.

The rift had affected the legislative arm of the Rivers State government while two different Speakers pledging loyalty to Wike and Fubara.

Despite President Bola Tinubu’s intervention, the minister and his successor have refused to shield their sword.

However, Idam said Tinubu can’t continue to watch and allow Wike to cause tension in Rivers State.

Chatting with DAILY POST, Idam said: “I will be surprised if Tinubu delivers on his Renewed Hope mandate with the way he’s going. I’m tempted to think that he enjoys the ongoing crisis in Rivers State. Otherwise, he should direct Wike to choose between his position as FCT Minister or his structure in Rivers State.

“By the way, how does President Tinubu feel waking up every day to see Wike cause tension against defenceless electorates in Rivers State?

“President Tinubu must prove that the lives and properties of all Nigerians including Rivers people matter to him much more than the votes he expects to harvest through Wike in 2027.

“He must not wait till the crisis in Rivers State escalates to other parts of the country before he wades in.

“No leader should be entertained by the troubles of his subjects. President Tinubu must not be amused or entertained by the crisis in Rivers, he has to urgently relieve Wike of his ministerial duties so that he can go home and focus on his structure(s) since that is more important to him. The covetous desire of one man should not be a nightmare to defenceless citizens. No man is the state.”
