A 48-year-old woman has been arraigned before an Ado-Ekiti Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defrauding a man of N1.5 million.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Osuolale Yomi informed the court on Friday, Aprl 5 that the defendant committed the offence in February 2024 in Ikere-Ekiti area of Ekiti state.
He alleged that the accused obtained the sum of N1.5m from the complainant, Oba Benjamin Olaniyi, on the pretext of drilling a borehole for him.
The defendant is standing trial on a count charge of fraud. Yomi said that the offense contravened Section 329(1) a of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State 2021.
The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case to enable him to study the file and assemble his witnesses. The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against her.
Counsel to the defendant, Kayode Oyeyemi, urged the court to grant the defendant bail, with a promise that she would not jump bail.
The Magistrate, Mrs Olubunmi Bamidele granted the defendant bail in the sum of N50,000 (Fifty Thousand Naira) with one surety in like sum. She adjourned the case until May 15, 2024.
