Several reactions have started trailing a trending video where a man tells his son that his relationship with his girlfriend of over 8 years can’t work due to their genotypes.
While many do not usually take their genotype seriously, this viral video is a perfect of example on the need for youth to know their genotype (sickle cell status) before getting into a relationship.
In the video, the young man went to his dad to inform him about his genotype which is AS (sickle cell carrier), and further disclosed to his dad that his girlfriend of over 8 years known as Tola is also AS (sickle cell).
Reacting to this, the father said the relationship can’t work as he asserts that they will have problems in the future.
According to the father, if they get married, they have the high propensity of given birth to children with SS,AS which are of genetic disorders and by extension won’t be a futuristic one.
Speaking further, the father and the mother said that it was okay by him if the lady said she loved him as they didn’t have anything against them.
However, the father said he is of the opinion of not creating problems for his son in the future.
The video sparked several reactions online, why many advised them to end the relationship due to their AS genotypes, others said there is now growth in research as they can give birth to children without having sickle cells.

on_a_normsss: There are actually options. Go for counseling with your doctors and plan each pregnancy with them.
the_6thson: If you’re AS, this should be a first date question and by the 5th date, there should already be verifiable proof that your date isn’t AS. Whatever love you think you share is not worth the pain and suffering. 🚶🏾♂️.
