Outrage has gripped Donga town in Taraba State following a brutal attack on a teenage girl, reportedly motivated by unfounded marital suspicions.
The suspect, Ramatu Abbas, is alleged to have attacked 17-year-old Iwasen Terhemba with a razor, causing severe facial disfigurement. According to reports, the incident was triggered by Ramatu’s suspicion that her husband was interested in the teenager.
Sources close to the victim, who lives with her guardian Jemila Wanga, claim that while the husband had made multiple advances toward the girl, she had firmly rejected him on every occasion. Despite the teenager’s lack of interest, Ramatu allegedly stormed the guardian’s residence in her absence to carry out the assault.
Police Response and Custody The Taraba State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of the suspect. Speaking to journalists, the Command’s Spokesman, Victor Mshelizah, stated:
“The issue is being taken care of already. The suspect is in custody while the victim is recovering. The case will soon be charged to court.”
Community members and activists have condemned the act in the strongest terms, calling for a swift and transparent trial to ensure justice is served and to deter such extreme acts of violence in the future.
