Two suspected kidnappers arrested over murder of village head, kidnap of his daughter and others in Niger state

The Niger State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with the murder of the village head of Gusasse in Bosso Local Government Area of the state and kidnap of his daughter. 

 

 

It would be recalled that on March 15, 2023, suspected gunmen attacked Gusasse village via Maikunkele in Bosso LGA. 

 

 

During the invasion, the assailants shot Mall. Abubakar Yahaya, the village head of Gusasse, dead and kidnapped his daughter to an unknown destination.

 

 

Similarly, the hoodlums in their escapades invaded the house of a victim at Barkuta, equally entered Sabon-Gari in Beji, where one Manir was also shot dead. They kidnapped one Alh. Hassan Gusasse, and inflicted machete cut injuries on Chairman Gan-Mamman of Miyeti Allah.

 

 

Consequently, based on these recent unfortunate incidents in Beji and its environs, police operatives attached to FIB tactical squad arrested two suspects based on a tip-off. 

 

 

Spokesperson of the command, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, who disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, gave the names of the arrested suspects as Risku Suleiman,34, and Haruna Umar,20, both of Kupa village via Garatu, Bida road Minna.

 

 

“The suspects were arrested on 31/03/2023 at Kupa village during a night sting operation in the area. During interrogation, Risku confessed to the crime that he had been in the acts of cattle rustling with his father, one Suleiman Aga’ala, who is an ex-convict for cattle rustling at Angwan-Maireke village, Beji,” the statement read. 

 

“He confessed further that he conspired with his friend, one Umar Awara from Lokoja, who equally invited eight others from Zamfara as thus: Idrisu, Shadai, Yeli, Yusuf and others presently at large, with the said Haruna Umar.

 

“He said the syndicate is responsible for the death of the village head, and that N1.5m ransom was collected for the release of the daughter recently, while the same amount was also collected for the release of Alh. Hassan Gusasse.

 

“However, effort is ongoing with a view to arrest Umar Awara and other members of the syndicate as discreet investigation is ongoing. Suspects will be arraigned in court for prosecution as soon as investigation is concluded.”
