Nigeria’s iconic rapper and music mogul, Olamide, alongside his protégé and YBNL’s golden star, Asake, have found themselves at the center of heated controversy, as whispers of a growing rift between the two dominate conversations both online and offline.
On Monday, December 23, Olamide hosted his legendary Olamide Live In Concert (OLIC) at the prestigious Eko Hotel and Suites, Victoria Island, Lagos.
The event, a monumental spectacle, was a vibrant celebration of the Baddo crooner’s unmatched legacy. Olamide held the audience spellbound, belting out his timeless hits, from Melo Melo to Fada Fada and Omo Abule Sowo.
The crowd was a constellation of stars, featuring his closest collaborators, Afrobeats giants like Wizkid and Tiwa Savage, as well as the revered Ooni of Ife. It was a night of history and grandeur, with nearly every artist Olamide has influenced or worked with showing up to honor the YBNL boss.
But amidst the glitz and glamour, a shadow loomed over the event—the noticeable absence of Asake, YBNL’s brightest export and the man many view as Olamide’s crowning achievement in recent years. Asake’s no-show left fans stunned and set tongues wagging.
Adding fuel to the fire, popular music critic Olu Mayor took to social media with a viral video that has since set the internet ablaze. In his fiery remarks, Olu Mayor questioned how Asake, of all people, could miss such a pivotal night meant to honour his mentor.
