Godwin Emefiele, the governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), on Thursday met with the 15 heads of commercial banks in the country.
The meeting followed President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive in his national broadcast to the nation that the CBN should recycle into the banking system the old 200 Naira notes.
The old 200 Naira notes would coexist with the new 200 Naira notes for 60 days beginning from February 10 to April 10, 2023.
Emefiele said he assured the deposit money banks that the old N200 notes would be made available starting with immediate.
He made the disclosures while speaking with State House Correspondents shortly after attending a meeting between President Buhari and the House of Representatives Adhoc committee on new naira redesign and naira swap policy at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Emefiele appealed to Nigerians to allow the policy to work, saying it would go a long way to help the nation’s economy.
The CBN Governor said that that the Apex bank would continue to do everything possible to ease the sufferings being experienced by Nigerians due to the cash crunch.
