The Kogi State Government has announced federal approval for the construction of an international airport in Zariagi.

In a statement on Friday, October 25, Kingsley Fanwo, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Communication, confirmed that the Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development granted approval in a letter dated October 9, 2024.

Fanwo highlighted that Governor Usman Ododo is committed to the timely completion of the airport, which aims to serve 10 surrounding states and alleviate traffic on the Lokoja-Abuja route. According to the statement, the airport will position Kogi as a strategic aviation hub within Nigeria, enhancing regional connectivity and economic growth.

“The Ododo Administration has prioritized the establishment of an international airport for Kogi State,” the statement read. “The state’s central location presents a unique advantage in capturing a significant share of the aviation service market.”

Fanwo further emphasized that the project, which will include both passenger and cargo services, is expected to boost the local economy, create job opportunities, and elevate Kogi’s global standing. “The Governor is determined to engage top experts in the aviation industry to ensure the success of this project,” Fanwo added, noting the importance of adherence to industry standards.

Expressing gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Aviation, Fanwo assured residents that Governor Ododo’s administration will continue investing in strategic projects to drive economic progress across the state.
