There’s been an ongoing tussle and lobbying for the principal positions in the incoming 9th assembly.
House majority leader and Surulere federal constituency representative, Hon Femi Gbajabiamila took his ‘nation building’ speakership ambition to rivers state.
Hon Gbajabiamila visited the governor of Rivers state Nyesom Wike to seek his endorsement for the post of Speaker House of Representatives.
The visit was part of the ongoing Gbajabiamila’s South East/South South campaign tour for the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Hon Gbajabiamila through his twitter account made this known. He tweeted “Few minutes ago, we got the FULL ENDORSEMENT of the Gov. of Rivers State, H.E. Nyesom Wike. He bought into our campaign slogan, “Nation Building -A Joint Task”. A reflection of our intention to provide bipartisan leadership in the coming 9th Assembly of @HouseNGR”
Gov Wike speaking on why he endorsed Gbajabiamila (APC, Lagos) said ” I don’t support you based on party lines; I support you based on capacity. “When you get there, we must work as a people; party is just a vehicle to convey you to your political destination.
“Party line is the major reason why Nigeria has not made any progress. It was the reason why our Electoral Act was not assented to,”
He further urged Gbajabiamila to put Nigeria first when he emerges as the speaker of the 9th House on June 10.
