Chinwoke Mbadinuju, a former Governor of Anambra passed away on Tuesday, April 11, 2023.
His first son, Chetachi Mbadinuju, a lawyer who announced this in a statement on Tuesday, said the patriarch died at 78.
He said the former Governor “passed on peacefully” on Tuesday morning at the National Hospital Abuja after a brief illness.

1. Chinwoke Mbadinuju was born on June 14, 1945.
2. He was Governor of Anambra State in Nigeria from May 29, 1999 to May 29, 2003.
3. He was elected on the platform of People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
4. Mbadinuju obtained a BA in political science, and a doctorate in government.
5. He gained a law degree from one of the best English universities.
6. He was an editor of Times International.
7. Before entering politics he was an associate professor of politics and African studies at the State University of New York.
8. He was personal assistant to governor of the old Enugu State, Dr. Jim Chris Nwobodo, between 1979 and 1980.
9. He served as the personal assistant to President Shehu Shagari between 1980 and 1983.
10. While in office, Chinwoke Mbaninuju passed a law that created the Anambra Vigilante Services, which legally enshrined the Bakassi Boys.
11. He was married to Nnebuogo Mbadinuju, and they have five children: Ada Mbadinuju (a medical doctor), Chetachi Mbadinuju (an entrepreneur), Nwachukwu Mbadinuju (an operations manager), Uche Mbadinuju (a student) and Chima Mbadinuju (a student).
