Super Eagles Head coach Gernot Rohr announced his provisional 30-man list for the world cup tournament in Russia. The German made some surprising inclusion to his team with the invitation of Kano Pillars hitman Junior Lokosa and Crotone Attacker Simeon Nwankwo, this invitation will certainly affect their winning odds in world cup as seen in most sites that predict football matches correctly. Rohr also took huge decision with the exclusion of Malaga’s Centre-forward Brown Ideye and Everton’s Centre-forward Henry Onyekuru from his list.
The List is as follows:
Goalkeepers: Ikechukwu Ezenwa, Daniel Akpeyi, Francis Uzoho, Dele Ajiboye
Defenders: William Ekong, Leon Balogun, Olaoluwa Aina, Kenneth Omeruo, Bryan Idowu, Chidozie Awaziem, Abdullahi Shehu, Elderson Echiejile,Tryonne Ebuehi, Stephen Eze
Midfielders: Mikel John Obi, Ogenyi Onazi, John Ogu, Wilfred Ndidi, Uche Agbo, Oghenekaro Etebo, Joel Obi, Mikel Agu
Forwards: Odion Ighalo,Ahmed Musa,Victor Moses, Alex Iwobi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Moses Simon, Junior Lokosa, Simeon Nwankwo.
Gernot Rohr will still have to pick out 23 players out of the 30-man list to feature in the show-piece that will commence in less than a month. The Team is billed to Host Democratic Republic of Congo in Port Harcourt on May the 25th before the final is revealed. The game provides a huge chance for players that have little likelihood to feature in Russia to convince the German tactician of their talents. The 23 squad will then play England and Czech Republic in their warm up games before the world-cup game against Croatia. John Mikel Obi and a host of senior players are likely to make the 23 man list but the German tactician will be ensuring that no casualty will be witnessed within the period especially with the senior players. Gernot Rohr will try to keep his boys fresh and fit by rotating players within the period.
Gernot Rohr will also be hoping to assembly the best midfield combination with John Obi Mikel as playmaker. The Super Eagles in the absence of Mikel were unable to take control of the center of pack in their last two friendlies against Poland and Serbia as their midfield occasionally collapses to pressure.
Gernot will most likely have the selection headache when it comes to starting lineup with a host of talent players at his disposal. The first real headache will be the selection of the Shot-stopper for the Super Eagles with Ezenwa and Uzoho both laying claim to the role.
Nigeria have not made it passed the second round of the tournament but are heavily optimistic about their chances this time with the Super Eagles sharing group with Argentina, Croatia and Iceland.
