RESIDENTS of Asaba, Delta State capital, yesterday, scampered for safety as a five-man robbery gang opened fire on a middle-aged man close to a bank, killing him on the spot.
The attack, which occurred at about 8:15a.m. at the busy Ibusa Junction, caught the police guarding the bank napping, as they joined civilians in running for their lives.
A dependable source, who spoke to the Vanguard, said the robbers had laid in wait around the bank before 7:30a.m., waiting for their victim.
The source, who pleaded anonymity, said the suspected hoodlums moved towards their victim, whose identity was unknown at press time, on sighting him with a black jute bag, containing money.
